In recognition of the need for controls over the sport, the International Kart Federation has published rules for competition since November 21, 1957. Throughout this time, the objectives of the Federation have been the same:

In 2000, the KMI print publication transitioned to the Internet as e-KMI.com – The 1# Source for Karting News and Information on the Internet. With most of the monthly print-columns in tact, e-KMI.com has since published over 1,700 karting articles as of January 2008.

Since 1993, Kart Marketing Group Inc. has produced Kart Expo International, which has become the largest karting industry trade show in North America.
